One powerful quote that keeps me going is from Thomas Jefferson on The Necessity of Taking Up Arms 1775:

“…we most solemnly, before God and the world, declare, that, exerting the utmost energy of those powers, which our beneficent Creator hath graciously bestowed upon us, the arms we have been compelled by our enemies to assume, we will, in defiance of every hazard, with unabating firmness and perseverence, employ for the preservation of our liberties; being with one mind resolved to die freemen rather than to live slaves.”

This quote keeps me going because of the very center of it is the preciousness of the liberties we all have, and that the cost of these liberties was to take up arms in defiance of the hazards brought upon us by the oppressors. The quote also brings to mind the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence, who literally signed their life away; all men were guilty of treason. The penalty of such a crime would mean death. They were willing to sacrifice their life for the liberties we hold dear. The same liberties that we take for granted. The same liberties that we see slowly being taken away by Acts of Congress. The Patriot Act being one of them.

[Original Ending:
The Patriot Act, as those who know me, I am not in favor of. There are numerous sections which I do believe have overstepped the boundaries of the Constitution. There is no manner of interpretation to get the correct idea of what the Act’s sections say, it clearly oversteps the bounds.]

[Edited Ending:
The Patriot Act, as those who know me, I am not in favor of. There are numerous sections which I do believe have overstepped the boundaries of the Constitution. One can say there is interpretation within the sections, and through certain interpretations, these sections are proper in the time which we live. This is clearly not the case, as some of the sections are clearly overstepping the bounds of the Constitution.]
