Tangled 3D
I was able to watch the film Tangled on opening night. Fortunately, it was a later showing and there were limited people in the theater. I was also fortunate to watch the movie in 3D. I enjoy movies in 3D. It gives a much more realism to the film, and being animated, realism is something that usually lacks by its very nature.
From the very beginning of the animated feature, I was drawn into the simplicity and yet classic nature of the story. I only knew a few bits of information of the original Brothers Grimm story. What I did know, was that there was a tower, a witch/enchantress, and Rapunzel had really long hair. With these simple facts, it was entertaining to watch the latest Disney Animations version of Rapunzel. While Disney holds to the basic outline of the Brothers Grimm story, there are changes to the details of the storyline. I realize these story changes as I have read the original Brothers Grimm storyline details. However, the changes, in my own opinion, are very good changes.
***SPOILERS***
I think that changing Prince to a thief. It adds more dimension to the film because it turns to be more of a redemption story on the character who finds Rapunzel. I like the fact that Rapunzel was kidnapped rather than the father, the king, surrendering the child in return for mercy because he was stealing from the enchantress’s garden. Ok, it sounds wrong that I liked that she was kidnapped, but then again, the alternative would be a King giving up his daughter to save his own skin. Seriously, that is some horrible selfishness. Therefore, kidnapping is much better because the King is no longer selfish because it is out of control, but the old woman is still evil. Other changes include the hair. The hair in this version is magical, and holds properties that cancel aging and heal. The hair is also, used as a weapon and not only as a way into the tower.
***End Spoilers***
The overall movie gives a wonderful feeling of what I got from watching Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Lion King when I was a child. The movie is sure to be a classic. It is a modern classic.
Overall the movie was a funny, entertaining, and musical piece of artwork that I couldn’t keep my eyes off of. It was a beautiful masterpiece, in my opinion, and I loved every minute of it.
I would have to agree!
My husband and I went to see Tangled and loved it just as much as the old classic’s.
